“With the appearance of the web, the viewership of on-demand streaming platforms in India has elevated, particularly amongst kids and youth, and it was noticed that use of tobacco and tobacco associated merchandise is promoted by way of the OTT platforms. Therefore, there’s an crucial want to manage depiction of tobacco merchandise and its use, on these OTT platforms additionally,” the minister mentioned. 

The minister additionally clarified that the foundations are relevant to any content material that’s streamed in India.

The federal government’s focus is on defending the youthful era from pointless publicity to tobacco imagery and ads, MoS Singh Baghel added.
