The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has directed all the companies reminiscent of banks, insurance coverage companies, actual property corporations and many others., to take contemporary specific consent from telecom customers digitally for sending any industrial or advertising messages.

The regulator mentioned the sooner consent given by customers stands null and void with the implementation of a brand new digital consent acquisition (DCA) facility.

“It’s particularly highlighted that after implementing DCA, the prevailing consents, acquired by different means, shall be rendered null and void and contemporary consents should be sought by all PEs (principal entities) by digital means solely,” Trai mentioned in an announcement.

The regulator requested all of the PEs or companies to take “pressing mandatory steps” to be onboard the DCA system as per the timelines prescribed by it.

In June this yr, Trai had requested all of the telcos to develop and deploy a digital consent acquisition facility which can be utilized to gather buyer consent.

Solely whitelisted URLs/ APKs/ OTT hyperlinks/ Name Again numbers, and many others. shall be used within the consent in search of messages,” Trai mentioned.

Additional, Trai mentioned telcos shall develop a SMS/ on-line facility to register unwillingness of the shoppers to obtain any consent in search of message initiated by any Principal Entity.
