John Sinclair, a counterculture icon who managed Detroit rockers MC5 throughout their peak years, has died. He was 82. His consultant confirmed that the Michigan native died of congestive coronary heart failure, The Detroit Information reported.

Along with managing MC5, Sinclair was referred to as a poet, a political activist, a vocal marijuana advocate and the chief of the White Panther Celebration, an anti-racist group named in response to the novel Black Panther Celebration.
