Amidst rising considerations over the federal government’s choice to delink televisions from internet-based over-the-top (OTT) platforms, a seminar organised by the Bangladesh Cell Telephone Shopper Affiliation (BMPCA) famous sturdy opposition from key stakeholders.

Addressing the seminar, former managing director of Bangladesh Hello-tech Park Authority Bikarna Kumar Ghosh stated stripping televisions of their hyperlink to OTT platforms infringes upon people’ proper to entry data, learn a press launch.

His sentiments have been echoed by Web Service Suppliers Affiliation of Bangladesh (ISPAB) President Emdadul Hoque, who highlighted the inconsistency in permitting overseas platforms like Amazon and Netflix to function freely whereas imposing restrictions on native platforms.

Hoque cautioned that stringent surveillance on native OTT platforms might inadvertently facilitate cash laundering actions, thereby disadvantaging native companies and fostering dominance by overseas entities.

Former director of the Bangladesh Competitors Fee Khalid Abu Naser offered insights into the worldwide panorama of OTT platforms, emphasizing their exponential development trajectory.

He underscored that any try and curtail native OTT platforms contradicts competitors legal guidelines, particularly contemplating the burgeoning market potential projected for Bangladesh.

BMPCA President Mohiuddin Ahmed reiterated the numerous function performed by OTT platforms in connecting over 30 million web customers for leisure and informative functions.

He criticised the imposition of situations on native OTT platforms, significantly in mild of the substantial income generated by overseas platforms similar to Fb and YouTube by means of reside streaming.
