Karnataka Likely To Levy 2% Cess On Movie Tickets, OTT Subscription Fees; BJP Reacts

Okay’taka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) Invoice 2024 proposes to represent a welfare board and set up a fund for cine and cultural activists within the state.

The Karnataka state authorities has proposed a brand new cess, ranging between 1 to 2 per cent, on cinema tickets and Over-The-High (OTT) subscription charges. This charge will fund social safety advantages corresponding to ESI and PF for cine artists and cultural performers, beneath the Labour Ministry’s Karnataka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) Invoice of 2024, which is ready to be launched within the present session.

The invoice outlines the creation of a seven-member welfare board for cine staff and cultural activists, tasked with managing funds from the cess to help social safety schemes.
