
The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis have introduced their second collaborative album, Deface The Forex, out Feb. 20 through Impulse! Data. The band, shaped in Washington, D.C., have been introduced collectively by Anthony Pirog, who spent his childhood listening to Fugazi. After connecting with the band’s drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally, they shaped the Messthetics and, alongside saxophonist Lewis, they launched their self-titled LP in 2024.
Deface The Forex is the end result of the Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis performing 150 reveals collectively in only a 12 months. “The extra somebody, the higher the connection is, the extra enriched it turns into,” Lewis says. “It’s like a cast-iron skillet: The extra you retain cooking in it, the higher the meals will get. So I feel that’s what you hear on the file, and also you hear an urgency of now.”

Forward of its launch, the Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis dropped “Gestations” and a trippy video with juxtaposed clips of the band performing and touring on tour.
