The Pretenders have launched “A Love,” the newest single from their upcoming album Relentless.
“I’m not frightened of you / I’m frightened of me proper right here / I’m frightened of taking stuff / I hand over yearly,” frontwoman Chrissie Hynde croons within the tune’s opening line, her voice rising over a heat rock lilt.
“A Love,” which you’ll hearken to under, harkens to the Pretenders’ traditional tracks, one thing Hynde brazenly admitted.
“I suppose ‘A Love’ is probably the most historically Pretenders-sounding tune on the album, within the vein of ‘Child’ or ‘Speak of the City’ or any of the midtempo ones over time,” Hynde defined in a press launch accompanying the tune.
“I typically see love/relationships virtually in the identical vein as drug habit,” the singer continued. “Though, having stated that, I do know I’m jaded, and cynical.”
“A Love” follows “I Assume About You Each day” and “Let the Solar Come In,” marking the third tune launched from Relentless.
“I take pleasure in seeing the varied meanings and origins of a phrase,” Hynde beforehand defined of the album’s title. “And I favored the definition: ‘Displaying no abatement of depth.’ It’s the lifetime of the artist. You by no means retire. You grow to be relentless.”
Relentless was produced by David Wrench (David Byrne, Glass Animals, Frank Ocean) and options contributions from a variety of artists, together with Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl.
Relentless comes out Sept. 15. In the meantime, the Pretenders will carry out a collection of reveals with Weapons N’ Roses in August, adopted by a handful of intimate headlining performances in varied U.S. cities.
