Lee Daniels’ Sammy Davis Jr. biopic collection has taken a few massive steps ahead. It’s been introduced that Elijah Kelley is ready to play the lead position and the collection has been formally ordered by Hulu. Kelley has beforehand appeared in Hairspray, Purple Tails, The Butler, and Star.
The untitled collection is predicated on the e book In Black and White: The Lifetime of Sammy Davis Jr., and it’s described as “an exploration of Davis’ life by way of the lens of his racial identification and his advanced relationship with the Black group.”
The collection has been given an eight-episode order on the streamer and Daniels has been growing the mission since 2013, when it was initially being developed as a film for HBO. Daniels has been co-writing the movie with Thomas Westfall, and he’ll direct the primary two episodes.
Davis rose from childhood stardom on the vaudeville stage to grow to be some of the well-known African American entertainers of the Fifties and ’60s and the one Black member of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.
