Keep in mind when the Black Eyed Peas had the music business in a veritable chokehold? Saturday Night time Reside actually does.

On Saturday’s (April 16) episode – for which Lizzo was each host and musical visitor – one skit imagined an Interscope recording studio circa 2008 because the pop-rap quartet recorded two of their greatest hits: “Increase Increase Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

Chris Redd (apl.de.ap), Bowen Yang (Taboo), Kenan Thompson (will.i.am) and Cecily Sturdy (Fergie) completely embody the Peas, with Aidy Bryant and Lizzo taking part in their producers. As will sings the “growth growth growth”s of “Increase Increase Pow,” Bryant explains that these have been simply meant to be “temp lyrics describing the beat of the observe.” Lizzo chimes in: “Yeah, you have been supposed to switch them with your individual lyrics — , like phrases.”

Clearly BEP didn’t take any of the producers’ recommendation, and the remaining is historical past: The pair of songs from This Is The E.N.D. owned the Billboard Scorching 100 in 2009, with “Increase Increase Pow” spending 12 weeks at No. 1, solely to be surpassed by “I Gotta Feeling” with 14 weeks up prime.
