Terry Gross, the host of NPR’s longrunning radio collection Recent Air, has received the Peabody’s Institutional Award, an honor offered by Stephen Colbert.
Described by Colbert as “half conversationalist, half therapist and half oral historian” (watch the video above), Gross, together with the Recent Air workforce, have been offered the award that acknowledges establishments and organizations, in addition to collection and packages, for “their enduring physique of labor and their iconic impression on each the media panorama and the general public creativeness.”

Gross started her radio profession in 1973 at public radio station WBFO in Buffalo, New York, and two years late joined the workers of WHYY-FM in Philadelphia as producer and host of Recent Air, then an area, day by day interview and music program. In 1985, WHYY-FM launched a weekly half-hour version of Recent Air with Terry Gross, which was distributed nationally by NPR. Since 1987, a day by day, one-hour nationwide version of Recent Air has been produced by WHYY-FM. The collection beforehand received a 1993 Peabody Award.
