Born in Chicago, Da Brat began her profession in 1992 and shortly grew to become a fan favourite after she signed to So So Def Data. Two years later, her debut album, Funkdafied, offered one million copies, making her the primary feminine solo act to obtain a platinum certification, the second total behind Salt-N-Peppa.
