Slowthai is apologizing after going through backlash for sporting a shirt with a swastika on it throughout a latest pageant efficiency.

On Monday (Aug. 1), Slowthai hopped on Twitter to share a message in response to resentment he acquired for sporting a shirt donning the notorious image at Osheaga Pageant in Montreal, Quebec. The U.Ok. rapper says the shirt doesn’t promote Neo-Nazi or fascist ideologies.

“I am sorry to anybody who’s offended by me sporting an anti-facist / anti-regime t-shirt and using the image it represents,” he wrote. “I need you to know I stand firmly towards antisemitism and fascism of any form, one thing the t-shirt was meant as an example with the phrase ‘destroy’ above the image.”

Osheaga Fest backed Slowthai’s stance. They launched their very own apology in response to the outcry.

“A performer appeared onstage sporting a controversial t-shirt displaying a swastika that induced confusion,” their assertion reads. “The t-shirt denounces the regime. We sincerely apologize to anybody who could have misinterpreted the message and felt damage.”

Slowthai’s efficiency drew the ire of American-based group @StopAntisemites.

“ATROCIOUS!” they wrote on Twitter following the efficiency on July 29. “The one phrase that involves thoughts once we see Tyron Frampton (i.e.@slowthai) allowed to carry out yesterday on the Osheaga music pageant in Quebec adorning a shiny crimson swastika. Why wasn’t he instantly yanked off the stage @osheaga @Nfarkas?!”

Following Sluggish’s rationalization, SA launched one other Twitter assertion in response.

“Designer Vivienne Westwood’s unique ‘DESTROY’ t-shirt denouncing nazism has a transparent obstruction on the left facet of the swastika,” it reads. “@slowthai’s shirt didn’t; from the viewers’s vantage level, all you may really see was a large crimson swastika.”

Slowthai is at the moment engaged on the follow-up to his 2021 Tyron album. He not too long ago launched the brand new single “BDE” with Shygirl.
