Showtime has picked up George & Tammy, the six-part restricted sequence about nation icons and married couple George Jones and Tammy Wynette, starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain.
The premiere episode will debut concurrently on Showtime and the Paramount Community on Dec. 4 following Yellowstone. The sequence had initially been slated to run completely on Paramount earlier than it shifted to Showtime.
“Jessica and Michael are actually extraordinary as Tammy and George and their searing performances and plain chemistry carry to life the legendary relationship of the King and Queen of nation music,” stated Chris McCarthy, president/CEO, Showtime and Paramount Media Networks, by way of a press release. “The creators and the whole forged have delivered a sequence with the subtlety, nuance and complexity which might be the hallmarks of the Showtime model and what our viewers deserve and demand.”
Along with Shannon and Chastain, the sequence additionally stars Steve Zahn, Kelly McCormack, Walton Goggins, Pat Healy, David Wilson Barnes and Katy Mixon. Created by Abe Sylvia and directed by John Hillcoat, it’s produced by MTV Leisure Studios, 101 Studios, Freckle Movies, Mad Likelihood, Brolin Productions, Aunt Sylvia’s Shifting Image Co. and Clean Movies Inc.

Shannon and Chastain are presenters on Nov. 9’s CMA Awards.
