A scary scenario unfolded aboard an American Airways flight on Friday when a laptop computer reportedly caught fireplace throughout touchdown, leaving a number of passengers with burn accidents.
American Airways Flight 2398 was touring from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Worldwide Airport in Atlanta to Dallas-Fort Value Worldwide Airport within the Lone Star state when the crew reported smoke coming from a buyer’s gadget.

The airline confirmed the incident to a number of media retailers, saying:
“American Airways Flight 2398 landed safely at DFW after experiences of smoke from a buyer’s gadget throughout touchdown. We thank our crew for his or her professionalism and swift response to shortly include the gadget.”

FYI, the incident is a sobering reminder of the potential risks posed by lithium-ion batteries, that are generally present in laptops, telephones and transportable chargers. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mentioned it recorded 58 lithium-battery incidents involving smoke or fireplace on passenger plane in 2026 as of August, per Folks.

The FAA had beforehand warned that these batteries can expertise “thermal runaway,” probably ensuing from injury, overheating, overcharging, water publicity, improper packing or manufacturing defects.
